기차를 타고 강원 정선과 충북 제천 등 인구감소지역을 방문하면 다음 달부터 기차표 반값 혜택을 받을 수 있다. Visitors to regions with declining populations like Jeongseon-gun County, Gangwon-do Province, and Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do Province can receive discounts of 50% on train fares from next month.
철도와 관광사업을 연계해 인구 소멸 위기를 극복하고 지역경제에 활력을 불어넣겠다는 구상이다. 이를 위해 공공기관과 지방자치단체가 손을 잡았다. This is part of a joint plan of the central and local governments to help regions at risk of extinction and reviving local economies by connecting rail and tourism projects.
문화체육관광부(문체부)는 행정안전부, 농림축산식품부(농식부), 국토교통부, 한국철도공사, 한국관광공사, 한국농어촌공사, 23개 지방자치단체(지자체)와 16일 ‘인구감소지역 철도 및 관광 활성화를 위한 업무협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약에 참여한 지자체는 강원 삼척, 충북 단양, 전북 익산, 경남 밀양 등 대부분 인구 감소지역이다. Most of the local governments in the program have declining populations like Samcheok, Gangwon-do; Danyang-gun County, Chungcheongbuk-do; Iksan, Jeollabuk-do Province; and Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
오는 8월 1일부터 판매되는 ‘지역사랑 철도여행’은 왕복승차권을 10% 할인 가격으로 구매한 후 지정된 열차를 이용해 해당 지역을 방문한 사실을 인증하면 다음 달에 철도운임 40% 할인권을 지급하는 방식으로 운영된다.
The so-called Regional Love Rail Travel program, which starts on Aug. 1, offers 40% off rail fare after a passenger buys a roundtrip ticket at a 10% discount and verifies visiting the area using a designated train afterward.
개인의 취향에 맞게 철도 승차권, 숙박, 렌터카, 입장권 등을 직접 선택해 할인된 가격으로 구매할 수 있는 ‘나만의 기차여행 만들기’ 기획전도 마련한다.
Another promotion, “Making My Own Train Travel,” allows passengers to plan their own trips by selecting train fare, accommodations, car rentals and admission to attractions at discounted prices.
이밖에 농식품부는 대중교통을 이용해 지역·농촌 관광지를 방문하면 교통비 최대 30% 할인을 제공하는 ‘농촌투어패스’ 사업을 추진한다.
And the rural village tour pass of the Agriculture Ministry allows visits to tourist attractions in rural and farming areas using mass transit with up to 30% off public transportation fares.
이날 협약식에 참여한 장미란 문체부 제2차관은 “이번 협약을 계기로 다채롭고 재미있는 프로그램을 적극 발굴해 관광으로 지역이 생동할 수 있는 길을 함께 만들어 나가겠다”고 말했다.
Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jang Miran said at the signing ceremony, “Using this agreement as an opportunity, we will actively discover colorful and fun programs to create ways for regions to come alive through tourism.”
