단절 위기의 국가무형유산 작품들을 만나볼 수 있는 전시회가 열린다. An exhibition will be held to display national intangible cultural heritage that are on the verge of extinction.
국가유산청은 국가유산진흥원과 함께 다음 달 3일부터 22일까지 국가무형유산 전승취약종목 활성화 특별전시 ‘시간을 잇는 손길’을 개최한다고 20일 밝혔다.
The Korea Heritage Service (KHS) announced on Aug. 20 that it and the Korea Heritage Agency (KHA) will hold the exhibition “The Touch that Connects Time” from Sept. 3-22 to vitalize endangered national intangible cultural heritage that are facing a crisis in being passed on to a new generation.
국가유산청은 대중성이 낮고 사회적 수요가 줄어 전승 단절 위기에 놓인 국가무형유산을 전승취약종목으로 정해 우선 지원하고 있다. The KHS has designated and prioritized support for national intangible cultural heritage that face the risk of being discontinued due to their low popularity and a decrease in societal demand.
덕수궁 돈덕전과 덕홍전 두 곳에서 열리는 이번 특별전시는 전승취약종목 중 ‘전통기술’ 20개 종목 보유자 등 전승자 46명의 작품 150여 점을 선보인다.
The exhibition will be held in Dondeokjeon Hall and Deokhongjeon in Deoksugung Palace, showcasing about 150 works from 46 cultural heritage makers in the 20 categories of “traditional technology” that are endangered cultural heritage.
지난해 100여 년 만에 재건돼 국민에게 공개된 돈덕전에서는 지난해 지정된 전승취약종목 20종목의 보유자 작품 80여 점을 전시한다. 이중 고인이 된 보유자 4인(나주의 샛골나이 노진남 보유자, 백동연죽장 황영보 보유자, 배첩장 김표영 보유자, 바디장 구진갑 보유자)의 작품도 함께 선보인다.
Reconstructed for the first time in about 100 years and opened to the public last year, Dondeokjeon will showcase about 80 works in the 20 categories. The works displayed include those from four deceased craftspeople — cotton weaving of Naju by Noh Jin-nam; white copper pipe making by Hwang Yeong-bo; baecheopjang (applying silk or paper mounting on scrolls of calligraphy or painting) by Kim Pyo-young; and reed making by Gu Jin-gap.
고종황제의 접견실로 사용됐던 덕홍전에선 국가무형유산 전승자들 11명이 전통기법으로 제작한 작품과 함께 전통공예를 현대적으로 재해석해 탄생한 생활 공예품 등 70여 점을 감상할 수 있다.
Deokhongjeon, once used by Emperor Gojong as a reception room, houses about 70 daily handicrafts, including artworks created by 11 craftspeople using traditional techniques, and pieces that have undergone modern reinterpretations.
전시 기간 중에는 전시와 관련한 다양한 참여형 프로그램도 즐길 수 있다. Visitors can also enjoy various interactive programs.
다음 달 8일 오후 2시 돈덕전 2층 아카이브실에서 이야기 콘서트 ‘이어가다’가 열린다. 국가무형유산의 맥을 계승하기 위해 고군분투하고 있는 젊은 전승자들의 다양한 삶의 이야기를 듣는 시간이다.
A discussion group called “Continuing:” will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 8 in the archive hall on the second floor of Dondeokjeon. Participants will listen to various life stories from young cultural heritage makers who are striving to continue and pass down intangible cultural heritage.
계속해 11~16일 하루 2회씩(오후 2, 4시) 전승취약종목 공예 체험 프로그램을 운영한다. 참가자는 갓일, 두석장, 매듭장, 배첩장, 나주의 샛골나이 등 생활 소품을 직접 만들어 볼 수 있다.
Handicraft programs will be held twice a day at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. from Sept 11-16. Visitors can make horsehair hats, metal craftworks, decorative knots and baecheopjang, and try Naju cotton weaving.
참여형 프로그램은 20일부터 온라인 사전 예약제로 운영되며 선착순으로 신청할 수 있다. 참가비는 무료다. Reservations for these programs can be made online from Aug. 20 on a first-come, first-serve basis. The programs are free of charge.
