이재명 대통령이 3일 청와대에서 한국을 국빈 방문한 에마뉘엘 마크롱 프랑스 대통령과 정상회담을 하고 첨단 산업과 에너지 분야 협력을 전면 확대하기로 했다.
President Lee Jae Myung and French President Emmanuel Macron, who was on a state visit to Korea, agreed during their summit on April 3 to greatly expand cooperation in cutting-edge industries and energy.
프랑스 정상 방한은 지난 2015년 이후 11년 만이다. 이재명 정부 출범 후 첫 유럽 정상 국빈 방문으로, 양 정상은 지난해 G7·G20 회의에 이어 세 번째 만남이다.
This marks the first visit by a French president to Korea since 2015 and the first European leader to make a state visit since President Lee took office. It is also the third meeting between the two leaders following last year’s G7 and G20 summits.
이 대통령은 이날 청와대에서 열린 공동언론발표에서 “프랑스는 1886년 수교 이래 140년 동안 대한민국의 곁을 든든하게 지켜준 친구”라고 강조했다.
이어 “6·25 전쟁 때는 전우로 함께했고, 원자력, 고속철도, 생명공학 등 우리 산업이 발전하는 과정에서 조력자로 함께해 왔다”며 “이제 K-팝과 K-콘텐츠를 함께 즐기며, 새로운 깊이의 우호와 신뢰의 관계를 깊게 쌓아가고 있다”고 말했다.
President Lee said at a joint press briefing, “France has been a steadfast friend to Korea for 140 years since diplomatic ties were established in 1886.”
“We fought side by side during the Korean War and have cooperated in developing industries such as nuclear power, high-speed rail and biotechnology,” he added. “Now, as we enjoy K-pop and Korean content together, we are building a deeper relationship of friendship and trust.”
양 정상은 양국 관계를 발전시키겠다는 공동성명을 채택하며 협정 3건을 개정하고, 양해각서 11건을 체결했다. 교역, 인공지능, 우주, 에너지, 방산, 교육, 연구, 문화, 국제보훈, 인적 교류 등 다양한 분야에서 협력이 대폭 확대된다.
The two leaders adopted a joint statement on strengthening bilateral relations, revised three agreements and signed 11 memorandums of understanding. Cooperation will expand across trade, artificial intelligence, space, energy, defense, education, research, culture, veterans affairs and people-to-people exchanges.
특히 지난해 역대 최대치(150억 달러)를 기록한 양국 교역액을 오는 2030년까지 200억 달러로 끌어올리기로 합의했다. 인적 교류 확대를 위해 한-프랑스 워킹홀리데이 참여 연령 또한 기존 18~30세에서 18~35세로 상향 조정했다.
Both sides agreed to increase bilateral trade from last year’s record USD 15 billion to USD 20 billion by 2030. They also raised the age limit for the Korea-France working holiday program from 18–30 to 18–35 to boost exchanges.
이 대통령은 마크롱 대통령이 올해 6월 프랑스 에비앙에서 열리는 G7 정상회의에 한국을 정식 초청했다며 감사함을 표한 뒤 “양국은 ‘글로벌 전략적 동반자’로서 글로벌 과제에 공동 대응을 한층 더 강화하기로 했다”고 밝혔다.
President Lee thanked President Macron for inviting Korea to the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains this June, adding that both countries, as “global strategic partners,” will strengthen joint responses to global challenges.
중동 전쟁 장기화에 따른 협력 방안과 관련해서는 “중동 전쟁이 야기한 경제 및 에너지 위기에 공동 대응하고자 정책 경험과 전략을 공유하고 글로벌 경제 불확실성 해소를 위해 함께 노력하기로 했다”면서 “원자력 및 해상 풍력 분야의 협력을 확대해 에너지 안보를 강화하는 한편 호르무즈 해협 내 안전한 해상수송로 확보를 위해 협력하겠다는 의지도 확인했다”고 설명했다.
On cooperation regarding the prolonged Middle East conflict, President Lee said both countries agreed to share policy experience and strategies to respond to economic and energy crises and work together to ease global uncertainty.
He added that they confirmed cooperation to strengthen energy security through nuclear and offshore wind power, as well as to ensure safe maritime transport routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
마크롱 대통령은 “회담에서 확인한 진정성과 상호 신뢰에 깊은 인상을 받았다”며 “이번 방문을 계기로 향후 140년의 양국 관계를 더욱 발전시키고, 평화와 상호 존중의 세계를 위해 함께 노력해 나가자”고 화답했다.
President Emmanuel Macron said he was deeply impressed by the sincerity and mutual trust shown at the summit, adding, “Let this visit be an opportunity to further develop the next 140 years of bilateral relations and work together for a world of peace and mutual respect.”
마크롱 대통령은 정상회담 이후 한불 수교 140주년을 기념해 프랑스 측 명예대사인 K-팝 그룹 ‘스트레이 키즈’의 필릭스와 배우 전지현 등 양국 각계 인사 140여 명이 함께하는 오찬에 자리한다.
After the summit, President Macron attended a luncheon marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties, joined by about 140 figures from both countries including Felix of Stray Kids and actress Jun Ji-hyun.
이어 연세대에서 강연을 하고 ‘한-프랑스 경제계 미래 대화’에 참석한다. 문화계 인사들과 만찬을 가진 후 서울공항에서 전용기편으로 출국한다.
He then delivered a lecture at Yonsei University and attended a Korea-France business dialogue, followed by a dinner with cultural figures before departing from Seoul Air Base.
