한국 야구가 17년 만에 월드베이스볼클래식(WBC) 8강 결선 리그에 진출했다. Korea has advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic for the first time in 17 years.
류지현 감독이 이끄는 한국 대표팀은 9일 일본 도쿄돔에서 열린 2026 WBC 1라운드 C조 4차전 호주와의 경기에서 7-2로 승리했다.
Led by manager Ryu Ji-hyun, the team beat Australia, 7-2, in their fourth and final round-robin game of Group C at Tokyo Dome.
2승 2패를 기록한 한국은 대만, 호주와 동률을 이뤘으나 최소 실점률에서 앞서 일본(3승)에 이어 조 2위로 8강에 올랐다.
Though tied with Taiwan and Australia with a 2-2 record, Korea advanced to the quarterfinals as runner-up of their group behind Japan due to a lower runs allowed average.
동률 팀간의 대결에서만 따진 실점률에서 한국이 0.1228, 대만과 호주가 0.1296을 기록해 우리나라가 두 나라를 밀어내고 미국행 티켓을 거머쥐었다.
Korea won the tiebreaker with an average of 0.1228, lower than Taiwan and Australia’s 0.1296, and moved on to the knockout round in the U.S.
한국이 WBC에서 조별리그를 통과한 것은 지난 2009년 준우승 이후 이번이 17년 만이다.
This broke a drought for Korea in the WBC’s second round since 2009, when it finished as runner-up.
대표팀은 미국 플로리다주 마이애미로 이동, 한국 시간 14일 오전 7시 30분 D조 1위와 8강 전을 치른다. 현재 D조에서 3승을 기록한 도미니카공화국 또는 2연승을 내달린 베네수엘라를 8강에서 만날 가능성이 크다.
In Miami on March 13, Korea will face the winner of Group D, either the Dominican Republic or Venezuela.
8강 4경기는 마이애미와 미국 텍사스주 휴스턴에서 나뉘어 열린다. 4강과 결승은 모두 마이애미에서 펼쳐질 예정이다.
Miami and Houston will host the quarterfinals and Miami the semifinals and final.
