경기 고양시 일산호수공원에서 1억 송이 꽃의 향연이 한창이다. The northern Seoul suburb of Goyang, Gyeonggi-do Province, is hosting a massive feast of 100 million flowers at Ilsan Lake Park.
지난달 26일 화려하게 막을 올린 ‘2024 고양국제꽃박람회’가 다채로운 꽃과 풍성한 볼거리로 입소문을 타면서 꽃박람회장을 찾는 관람객 발길이 이어지고 있다. International Horticulture Goyang Korea 2024 on April 26 got off to a spectacular start with a wealth of colorful flowers and things to see. Word of mouth about the event has also attracted many visitors.
‘지구환경과 꽃’을 주제로 열린 꽃박람회는 30개국 50개 도시, 200여 개 기관·단체 등이 참여해 역대 최대 규모다. 오는 12일까지 각국의 대표 꽃들을 비롯해 1000여 종 1억 송이 꽃을 선보인다.
Under the theme “Earth environment and flowers,” this year’s exhibition is the largest in the event’s history with 50 cities from 30 countries and about 200 organizations and groups participating. Through May 12, 100 million flowers from about 1,000 species will be displayed including the leading varieties from each country.
지난달 26일 일산호수공원. 꽃이 눈이 들어오지 않아도 어린 바람에 실려 온 꽃향기가 진하다. 꽃박람회장 입구인 노래하는 분수광장에 들어서자 거대한 꽃등고래와 재두루미 조형물이 맞이한다.
Visiting Ilsan Lake Park on April 26, a Korea.net staff writer experienced the strong fragrance of flowers spread through the wind even though the flowers were not visible. Large flower sculptures of a whale and a white-naped crane greeted visitors at the Spectacular Singing Fountain at the event’s entrance.
먼저 공원의 자연환경과 잘 어우러진 주제공원으로 발길을 옮긴다. “자세히 보아야 예쁘다”는 나태주 시인의 작품 ‘풀꽃’이 불현듯 떠올랐을까. 자연학습원에서 울릉도 섬노루귀를 비롯한 자생화 60 여 종을 찬찬히 들여다본다. 수변정원은 수생식물과 정수식물로 가득하다. 순환정원에서 다양한 생육 기술과 화훼 장식이 어우러진 미래의 장미정원을 만난다. 장미 2만 송이가 총천연색의 꽃 터널, 꽃탑과 조화를 이뤄 시선을 사로잡는다. 찰칵찰칵, 가족 단위 관람객과 현장체험학습을 나온 아이들까지 여기저기서 사진을 찍느라 떠들썩하다. 남는 건 사진뿐이라는 듯.
First, she walked to Theme Garden, which blended well with its natural environment and suddenly a quote from poet Na Tae-joo’s work “Grass Flower” came to mind: “It’s pretty if you look closely at it.” At Nature Learning Center, the writer looked at more than 60 species of native flowers including liverwort (hepatica maxima) from Ulleung-do Island of Ulleung-gun County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.
Waterside Garden was filled with aquatic and emergent plants. At the “circulation garden” was a rose garden of the future with an array of cultivation techniques and floral arrangements. Twenty thousand roses blended well to form a colorful tunnel and a tower with all of their natural colors.
“Click, click, click.” The sounds of camera snaps by families and children on field trips filled the venue. It seemed that all that remained were photos.
꽃박람회장 곳곳에 세계 최고 수준의 정원가 3인이 꾸민 정원이 있다고 해 찾아간다. 세계작가정원에서 황지해(대한민국), 레옹 클루지(남아프리카공화국), 폴 허비 브룩스(영국) 등 세계 최정상급 정원가 3인의 작품을 감상한다. 예술작품으로서 가치를 더하는 듯하다. 이들 모두 영국 첼시 플라워쇼에서 금메달을 수상했단다.
World Writers’ Garden was done by three world-class garden designers: Hwang Ji-hae (Korea), Paul Hervey-Brookes (U.K.) Leon Cluge (South Africa). All three won gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show in London.
화훼교류관과 화훼산업관으로 이뤄진 실내전시관. 그냥 지나치면 왠지 있음 직한 보물을 놓칠 것만 같다. 화훼교류관에 전시된 ‘고양플라워그랑프리’ 경연 작품과 국내외 신품종, 이색 식물 등이 반긴다.
The indoor exhibition hall had Flower Exchange Center and Flower Industry Exhibition. Just passing by felt like missing out on finding treasure, as the center housed the winners of the Goyang Flower Grand Prix contest, new domestic and foreign flower types, and exotic specimens.
장미원과 주제광장에서 펼쳐지는 마술쇼와 버스킹 공연 등도 발길을 붙잡는다. 꽃 열차와 수상 꽃 자전거, 꽃 만들기 등 체험 프로그램이 꽃박람회의 재미를 더한다. 일산호수공원 주제 광장엔 ‘고양 플라워마켓이’ 들어섰다. 품질 좋은 화훼를 저렴한 가격에 구입하려는 관람객들로 붐빈다.
Magic shows and busking performances at Rose Garden and Theme Garden also grabbed attention. Interactive programs like a flower train, water flower bicycles and flower making added to the fun. Theme Square also hosted the Goyang Flea Market, which was packed with visitors looking to buy quality flowers at lower prices.
올해 꽃박람회는 탄소배출 최소화에 각별한 신경을 썼다. 환경, 사회, 지배구조(ESG) 실현을 염두에 뒀을 터. 대중교통 이용객에게 입장료 3000원을 할인해 주는 이유다. 꽃박람회와 관련한 더 자세한 내용은 고양꽃국제박람회 누리집(www.2024.flower.or.kr)에서 확인 가능하다.
Much effort went into minimizing carbon emissions at this year’s exhibition through environmental, social and governance practices. A discount of KRW 3,000 goes to each visitor who uses public transportation to get to the event. More information is available on the exhibition’s official website (www.2024.flower.or.kr).
이동환 고양시장은 “고양국제꽃박람회는 화훼산업의 발전상 등 관련 산업을 한눈에 볼 수 있는 기회이자 지역 화훼 농가와 시민이 함께 만들어가는 축제형 박람회”라면서 “다양한 볼거리와 꽃문화 행사가 펼쳐지는 고양국제꽃박람회에 오셔서 아름다운 추억을 담아가시길 바란다”고 말했다.
