[Korean grammar] A/V-(으)니까 ① Reasons and Causes

길이 막히니까 지하철을 탑시다.
The roads are full of traffic, so let’s take the subway.

추우니까 창문 좀 닫아 주세요.
It’s cold, so please close the window.

샤워를 하니까 기분이 좋아요.
I took a shower, so now I feel good.

Grammar Focus:
-(으)니까 expresses the reason or cause for something and corresponds to ‘so’ or ‘because’ in English. When the verb stem ends in a vowel or ㄹ, -니까 is used, and when the verb stem ends in a consonant, -으니까 is used.

A: 부장님, 이번 주에 회의가 있습니까?
Chief, is there a meeting this week?
B: 이번 주는 바쁘니까 다음 주에 합시다.
This week I’m busy, so let’s have it next week.

A: 여자 친구에게 무슨 선물을 할까요?
What present should I give my girlfriend?
B: 여자들은 꽃을 좋아하니까 꽃을 선물하세요.
Girls like flowers, so give her some flowers.
