그룹 방탄소년단(BTS)이 ‘빌보드 선정 21세기 최고 팝스타’(Billboard’s Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century)에 이름을 올렸다. BTS has made the list of Billboard’s greatest pop stars of the 21st century.
미국 음악 매체 빌보드는 10일(현지 시간) 공개한 ’21세기 최고 팝스타’ 순위에서 BTS를 19위로 선정했다. The American music media company on Sept. 10 ranked the boy band 19th on its list.
빌보드는 BTS가 빌보드 메인 싱글 차트 ‘핫 100’과 메인 앨범 차트 ‘빌보드 200’에서 각각 여섯 차례 1위를 차지한 사실을 언급하며 “BTS가 세계적인 센세이션을 일으키며 비틀스급 성공을 거뒀다”고 평가했다.
Mentioning how BTS topped the Hot 100 main singles and Billboard 200 albums charts six times each, Billboard said, “The global sensations have amassed Beatles-sized success.”
이어 “그 어떤 K-팝 그룹도 BTS가 21세기에 거둔 성과를 이루지 못했다”며 “글로벌 커뮤니티를 형성하고, K-팝의 장르를 확장하며 7명이 모두 성공적인 솔로 활동에 이르는 길을 닦았다”고 덧붙였다.
“No K-pop group — or group in general — has been able to accomplish what Bangtan has this century,” it said. “From creating a global community to expanding K-pop well outside of its genre and delivering seven successful pop star solo acts, BTS truly paved the way.”
BTS의 팬덤인 ‘아미’와의 특별한 관계와 다양한 음악 장르를 소화할 수 있는 멤버들의 역량도 성공 비결로 짚었다. Billboard called the group’s special bond with its fan group ARMY and the diverse musical capacity of each BTS member as the secrets to success.
빌보드는 “BTS는 긍정, 사랑, 연결의 메시지에서 영감을 얻는 커뮤니티를 만들었다”며 “아미는 다양한 연령대, 인종, 종교를 가리지 않고 퍼져 있고 일반적인 팬덤보다 그룹을 더 성장시켰다”고 말했다.
The article said, “The group has broken through ceilings for boy bands, K-pop and South Korean artists in general, all while creating a meaningful community that is continually inspired by BTS’ message of positivity, love and connection.”
그러면서 “7명 멤버는 모든 공연 분야에서 강점을 드러내도록 만드는 K-팝 훈련 방식을 거쳤다”며 이와 함께 최고를 자랑하는 뮤직비디오와 무대, 힙합과 발레를 넘나드는 안무 등을 주요한 성공 요인으로 꼽았다.
“Being trained in the K-pop methodology prepared all seven to be strong in all areas of performance,” it added, mentioning not only BTS’ high-quality music videos and stage presence but also choreography that combines hip-hop with aerial, ballet and interpretive dance.
빌보드는 지난달부터 매주 2명씩 ‘빌보드 선정 21세기 최고 팝스타’를 25위부터 순차적으로 공개하고 있다. 앞서 케이티 페리가 25위, 에드 시런이 24위, 배드 버니가 23위에 올랐다. 이어 원 디렉션이 22위, 릴 웨인이 21위, 브루노 마스가 20위를 차지했다.
Since last month, Billboard has featured two artists per week for its “Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century” list starting with Katy Perry at 25th. Ed Sheeran followed at 24th, Bad Bunny 23rd, One Direction 22nd, Lil Wayne 21st and Bruno Mars 20th.
