Chinese travelers on group tours from Sept. 29 can visit Korea without a visa for up to 15 days under a temporary visa-waiver program ending next year on June 30.
중국인 단체관광객이 이달 29일부터 내년 6월 30일까지 무비자로 최대 15일 간 대한민국 전역을 여행할 수 있게 된다.
This was reported on Sept. 7 under a plan to that effect jointly announced by the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Office for Government Policy Coordination.
법무부와 문화체육관광부, 외교부, 국무조정실은 7일 부처 합동으로 이 같은 내용의 ‘중국 단체관광객 한시 비자 면제 시행 계획’을 발표했다.
The exemption applies to tour groups of more than three people set up by travel agencies allowing a visit for up to 15 days. Jeju Island will keep its policy of allowing visa-free entry for both individual and group tourists for 30 days.
이번 조치는 전담여행사가 모집한 3인 이상 단체관광객에게 적용되며 최대 15일간 국내 전역을 여행할 수 있다. 제주도는 기존과 같이 30일간 개별·단체 관광이 모두 허용된다.
Not eligible for this program are tourists classified as high risk who must receive a separate visa. 다만 고위험군으로 분류된 관광객은 무사증 입국이 제한되며, 별도의 사증을 발급받아야 한다.
In anticipation of a large number of Chinese tourists ahead of China’s upcoming National Day holidays, Seoul from Sept. 22 will allow advance registration of group tourists a week before the launch of the temporary visa exemption.
정부는 중국 국경절 연휴를 앞두고 입국자가 늘어날 것으로 보고 시행일 이전인 오는 22일부터 단체 명단 사전 등재를 허용한다.
The ministries of justice and culture will upgrade the quality of tourism in Korea through registration and designation procedures and training for travel agencies; banning cheap tours and mandatory shopping; and developing high-quality tourism products.
법무부와 문체부는 전담여행사 등록·지정 절차와 교육을 하고, 저가 관광과 쇼핑 강요 금지, 우수 상품 개발 지원 등으로 관광 질 제고에 나설 방침이다.
A government news release said, “The temporary visa exemption for Chinese tourists could boost not only domestic tourism but also local economies.”
정부 관계자는 “중국 관광객에 대한 한시적 비자 면제가 국내 관광 산업은 물론 지역 경제에도 활력을 불어넣을 수 있을 것”이라고 기대했다.
