서울·대전·부산·대구가 4년 연속 세계지식재산기구(WIPO)의 ‘100대 과학·기술 클러스터’에 선정됐다고 특허청이 28일 밝혔다.
Seoul, Daejeon, Busan and Daegu are among the world’s top 100 Science and Technology Clusters as selected by the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) said on Aug. 28.
100대 과학기술 클러스터는 최근 5년간의 국제 특허 출원 규모와 과학기술논문추가인용색인(SCIE)급 논문 데이터를 분석해 발명가와 논문 저자 소재지 밀도가 높은 지역 순위로 선정한다.
The rankings are based on analyses of the scale of international patent filings over the past five years and data from Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) papers to rank cities with high concentration of inventors and writers of academic articles.
이에 따라 한국이 집중적인 혁신생태계 구축을 위해 노력하고 있음이 재확인됐다. The latest list reaffirmed Korea’s efforts to form an intensive innovation ecosystem.
서울 협력 지구(클러스터)는 4년 연속 5대 클러스터(4위)에 선정되며 글로벌 혁신 중심지로서의 위상을 증명했다. The Seoul cluster placed fourth for its fourth straight year of being in the top five, reconfirming its status as a pivotal global hub of innovation.
‘과학 중심도시’ 대전도 3년 연속 20대 클러스터(17위)에 이름을 올렸다. 특히 인구 100만 명당 특허출원과 과학논문 점유율을 기준으로는 세계 7위에 랭크됐다.
Dubbed the nation’s “science hub,” Daejeon ranked 17th to finish in the top 20 for three years in a row. It was also seventh in the number of patent filings and share of science papers per one million residents.
부산과 대구 역시 각각 81위와 88위로 올해 ‘100대 과학·기술 클러스터’에 선정됐다. Busan was 81st and Daegu 88th.
국가별 100대 클러스터 수는 중국이 26개로 가장 많았고, 미국(20개)과 독일(8개)이 뒤를 이었다. By nation, China had the most clusters on the list with 26, followed by the U.S. (20) and Germany (eight).
정인식 특허청 산업재산보호협력국장은 “특허청은 국내 각 클러스터의 기업과 학계·연구계가 강점을 살려 혁신역량을 더욱 키우고 글로벌 경쟁에서 앞서나갈 수 있도록 지원해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
Jeong In-sik, director general of KIPO’s Intellectual Property Protection and International Cooperation Bureau, said, “KIPO will support each domestic cluster’s companies and academia and research community to further develop their innovation capacities by using their strengths to stay ahead in the global competition.”
