서울 도심이 다가오는 연말을 맞아 화려한 빛의 축제장으로 변신한다. To celebrate New Year’s Eve, Seoul from the middle of next month will transform itself into a venue for a colorful festival of lights.
서울시는 다음달 15일부터 내년 1월 21일까지 38일간 ‘서울윈터페스타(서울윈타) 2023’을 개최한다고 22일 밝혔다. The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Nov. 22 said it will host this year’s Seoul Winter Festa from Dec. 15 to Jan. 21.
‘서울윈타 2023’은 겨울철 서울 도심 곳곳에서 열리던 행사를 한데 모아 진행하는 ‘초대형 도심 겨울축제’다. ‘세상에 없던 빛, 서울을 물들인다’를 주제로 열리는 이번 행사에서는 동대문디자인플라자(DDP), 보신각, 세종대로, 광화문광장, 열린송현녹지광장, 청계천, 서울광장 등 서울 대표 명소 7곳에서 미디어파사드와 프로젝션 맵핑 기술 등을 이용한 화려한 전시가 펼쳐진다.
This mega-urban festival features winter events that used to be held across the capital. Under the theme “Lights Never Existing in the World, Coloring Seoul,” the event will feature vivid light shows such as a media facade and events using projection mapping technology at seven leading spots in the city: Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Bosingak Pavilion, Sejong-daero Road, Gwanghwamun Square, Open Songhyeon Green Plaza, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Seoul Plaza.
먼저 서울을 대표하는 미디어아트 전시로 자리매김한 ‘서울라이트’는 다음달 15일부터 내년 1월 21일까지 광화문, 다음달 21일부터 31일까지 DDP에서 열린다. 100년 만에 복원된 광화문 월대부터 광화문광장 사이에는 800m 길이의 초대형 미디어파사드가 설치된다. DDP 외벽에는 ‘디지털 아틀란티스’, ‘서울라이트 DDP 겨울’ 등의 작품을 선보인다.
“Seoul Light,” an iconic media art exhibition representing the city, will run from Dec. 15 to Jan. 21 at Gwanghwamun Square and from Dec. 21-31 at DDP. A mega media facade will be installed on an 800-m path between a woldae (elevated ceremonial stage) and Gwanghwamun Square, and DDP’s outer wall will display media artworks like “Digital Atlantis” and “Seoul Light DDP Winter.”
올해 15번째를 맞는 ‘서울빛초롱축제’도 행사 기간 내내 광화문광장, 청계천, 서울광장 일대에서 이어진다. 360도 입체 구 형태로 프로젝션 맵핑이 가능한 ‘시공의 달’, 2024년 용의 해를 맞아 구름 사이에서 깨어나는 용을 형상화한 작품 등 대형 조형물을 중심으로 한 화려한 볼거리를 제공할 예정이다.
The Seoul Lantern Festival, which marks its 15th year, will be held in and around Gwanghwamun Square, Cheonggyecheon, and Seoul Plaza throughout the festival. Among the spectacles will be dazzling large sculptures like one capable of projection mapping in the form of a 360-degree 3D sphere and another of a dragon waking up on a cloud to mark the Year of the Dragon next year under the Asian zodiac.
열린송현녹지광장에서 열리는 ‘송현동 솔빛축제’와 함께 광화문과 DDP에서는 매년 겨울 명소로 사랑받고 있는 ‘크리스마스 마켓’ 행사도 진행된다. 다음달 22일부터 내년 2월 11일까지 52일 간 개방되는 서울광장 스케이트장도 방문객을 맞이한다.
The Light Festa in Songhyeon will be held at Open Songhyeon Green Plaza in Jongno-gu District and the annual Christmas Market at Gwanghwamun Square and DDP. Seoul Plaza Skating Rink will run from Dec. 22 to Feb. 11.
이와 함께 서울시는 다음달 31일부터 내년 1월 1일까지 DDP에서 열리는 ‘2023 서울콘’을 계기로 ‘서울윈타 2023’ 홍보에 주력한다. 올해 서울콘을 찾는 40여 개국 3천 여팀의 글로벌 인플루언서들은 행사 기간 서울 도심을 누비며 생중계 및 콘텐츠 제작을 통해 ‘서울윈타 2023’을 홍보할 계획이다.
To promote Seoul Winter Festa, the city will also host SeoulCon from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1 at DDP. Around 3,000 teams of global influencers from 50 countries will visit downtown Seoul to livestream events and create content to promote the winter festival.
다음달 31일에는 공개 추천으로 선정된 시민 대표, 글로벌 인플루언서 등 18명이 한해를 마무리하는 제야의 종 타종행사에 참여한다. 33번의 타종 후에는 세종대로 한가운데 지름 12m 규모의 ‘자정의 태양’이 떠오르면서 2024년의 시작을 알린다.
On Dec. 31, 18 people will attend the annual year-end bell-ringing ceremony at Bosingak Pavilion including representatives selected from open recommendations from civic leaders and global influencers. After ringing the bell 33 times, a 12 m-diameter sphere, “Midnight Sun,” will rise in the sky to herald the beginning of 2024.
최경주 서울시 문화본부장은 “서울 윈타는 서울이 ‘글로벌 문화발신지’ 위상에 걸맞는 세계적인 축제 도시로 거듭나는 신호탄이 될 것”이라며 “초대형 메가축제를 모두가 안전하고 즐겁게 즐기실 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
“The Seoul Winter Festival will be a starting point for Seoul’s rebirth as a world-class festival city befitting its status as a global culture destination,” said Choi Kyung-ju, head of the city’s Culture Headquarters. “We will do our best to ensure that everyone enjoys the mega festival in a safe and joyful manner.”
한편, 서울시는 지난 22일부터 유튜브와 사회관계망 채널을 통해 축제와 관련된 홍보영상을 순차적으로 공개하고 있다. Since Nov. 22, the city has sequentially launched promotional videos for the festival on its YouTube and social media channels. More information about the festival will be available on its website from early next month.
