최근 10년간 한국에 공부하러 온 외국인 유학생 수가 꾸준히 증가하고 있다. 그중 57%가 수도권 소재 대학에 재학 중이다. The number of foreign students has steadily increased over the past decade, with 57% of them attending universities in the Seoul metropolitan area.
한국대학교육협의회가 24일 발행한 ‘외국인 유학생 유치 현황 및 향후 과제’ 보고서에 따르면 지난해 외국인 유학생은 총 18만1842명으로 집계됐다. 지난 2013년 8만5923명보다 2.1배 이상 증가한 수치다.
A report on attracting foreign students and future tasks released by the Korean Council for University Education on June 24 said 181,842 foreign students last year attended domestic universities, a 210% jump from 85,923 in 2013.
외국인 유학생이 가장 많은 대학은 한양대(6612명), 경희대(6395명), 성균관대(5472명), 연세대(4965명), 중앙대(4480명) 순이었다. By school, Hanyang had the most foreign students with 6,612, followed by Kyung Hee with 6,395, Sungkyunkwan 5,472, Yonsei 4,965 and Chung-Ang 4,480.
전체 외국인 유학생의 45%가 서울에 있는 대학에 재학 중이다. 경기도 소재 대학에 12%, 충청도와 부산·울산·경남 지역 대학에 7%, 대전 소재 대학엔 6% 외국인 유학생이 다니는 것으로 나타났다.
The majority 45% attended universities in Seoul, followed by Gyeonggi-do Province with 12%, Chungcheongbuk-do Province and Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do Province 7%, and Daejeon 6%.
출신 국가를 살펴보면 중국이 5만8062명으로 전체의 32%를 차지해 압도적으로 많았다. 다음 순위는 베트남(3만7732명·20%), 몽골(9738명·5.4%), 일본(5701명·3.1%)이었다.
By country, China led the foreign contingent with 58,062, or 32%, followed by those from Vietnam (37,732 or 20%), Mongolia (9,738 or 5.4%) and Japan (5,701 or 3.1%).
학·석·박사 학위과정 11만9237명, 어학연수 등 비학위과정은 5만2602명으로 파악됐다. 전공별로는 인문사회계열이 전체 68%로 가장 높았고, 예체능계가 15%, 공학계가 12%, 자연과학계가 5%로 가장 낮았다.
In addition, 119,237 foreign students pursued a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. and 52,602 were in non-degree programs such as language training. By major, humanities and social sciences dominated with 68%, followed by arts and sports with 15%, engineering 12% and natural sciences 5%.
