판소리 소리꾼과 한국 무용가가 만난 독특한 듀오, 전통 음악인 국악과 K-팝의 결합. ‘도드리’는 이러한 새로운 시도로 탄생한 팀이다. 판소리 소리꾼 집안 3대인 나영주와 3세부터 춤사위를 익힌 이송현이 새로운 ‘한류’를 선보이는 듀오로 벌써 주목받고 있다.
The duo Dodree brings together a pansori singer and a traditional Korean dancer, combining gugak (traditional Korean music) with K-pop in a unique collaboration.
Na Yeongju, a third-generation pansori performer, and Lee Songhyun, who has trained in dance since age 3, are already gaining attention as a duo presenting a new form of Hallyu.
팀명은 국악의 보통 속도 6박 장단인 ‘도드리’와 영어 ‘free(자유)’를 결합해 지었다. 한 장르에 국한되지 않고 한계를 뛰어넘어 전 세계로 나가겠다는 결연한 의지의 투사다.
The group’s name combines “dodeuri,” a standard six-beat rhythm in gugak, with the English word “free.” It reflects their determination to break boundaries and expand globally beyond a single genre.
도드리는 K-팝의 골격 위에 국악의 매력을 입힌 음악으로 자신들만의 차별화를 꾀한다. 기존 아이돌처럼 화려한 퍼포먼스를 선보이면서도 노래와 안무 마디마디에는 한국적인 색채를 짙게 담아냈다.
Dodree differentiates itself by layering the charm of gugak onto the structure of K-pop. While delivering flashy performances like typical idols, every lyric and choreography movement carries strong elements of Korean tradition.
독보적인 퍼포먼스는 혹독한 연습의 산물이다. 데뷔 준비 과정에서 나영주는 이송현에게 국악 창법을 전수하고, 이송현은 나영주에게 한국무용의 유려한 몸짓을 입혔다. 서로의 예술적 자양분을 체득하며 국악과 무용이 유기적으로 결합한 도드리만의 강점을 구축했다.
Their distinctive performance is the result of intense training. During preparation for debut, Na taught Lee gugak vocal techniques, while Lee trained Na in the fluid movements of Korean dance.
By absorbing each other’s artistry, they built Dodree’s unique strength — an organic fusion of traditional music and dance.
이러한 실험적인 시도는 지난 1월 26일 발표한 크로스오버 곡 ‘꿈과 같았다’로 큰 반향을 일으켰다. 특히 우리말 가사만으로도 언어의 장벽을 넘어 웅숭깊은 정서를 전달했다. “경이로운 결합”이라는 국내외 팬들의 찬사를 받으며 성공적인 첫발을 뗐다.
This experimental approach gained strong attention with their crossover song “Just Like a Dream,” released on Jan. 26.
Using only Korean lyrics, the song conveyed deep emotions beyond language barriers and received praise from both domestic and international fans as an “amazing fusion,” marking a successful debut.
도드리는 데뷔 이후 국립중앙박물관과 협업해 한국 전통미를 투영한 콘텐츠를 제작했다. 지난 2월 13일 박물관을 배경 삼아 제작한 뮤직비디오 ‘꿈과 같았다’를 공개해 화제를 모았다.
Since debuting, Dodree has collaborated with the National Museum of Korea to create content reflecting traditional Korean aesthetics.
On Feb. 13, the duo released a music video for “Just Like a Dream” filmed at the museum, drawing public attention.
이송현은 “유물이 있는 공간에서 촬영한다는 자체가 신기하면서도 꿈속 같았다”라고 당시의 감동을 전했다. 그러면서 “한국을 담은 공간에서 한복을 입고 우리 음악에 맞춰 한국적인 춤 선이 담긴 안무를 선보일 수 있어 영광이었다”라고 덧댔다.
Lee said filming in a space filled with historical artifacts felt both fascinating and dreamlike.
She added that it was an honor to wear hanbok and perform choreography inspired by Korean dance in a space representing Korea.
나영주는 도드리의 매력으로 “익숙한 K-팝 형식에 한국의 미를 녹여 대중이 자연스럽게 다가서게 하는 점”을 꼽으며 “국악의 문턱은 낮추되 한국 음악 고유의 매력은 고스란히 전달하겠다”는 자신감을 보였다.
Na said Dodree’s appeal lies in blending Korean beauty into a familiar K-pop format, making it more accessible to the public.
She added that while lowering the barrier to gugak, the group aims to fully convey its unique charm.
도드리는 아이돌을 넘어 시대의 가교가 되길 꿈꾼다. 이송현은 “전통의 뿌리는 변하지 않기 때문에 다양한 방식으로 발전하고 확장되는 것 또한 전통의 한 모습”이라며 “누군가는 전통을 그대로 이어가고, 누군가는 새로운 방식으로 해석해 매력을 만들어가야 한다”고 했다.
Dodree aims to go beyond being an idol group and become a bridge across generations.
Lee said that since the roots of tradition do not change, evolving and expanding in various ways is also part of tradition. Some preserve it as it is, while others reinterpret it to create new appeal.
어느 무대에서든 한국 문화가 자연스럽게 스며들 수 있도록 끊임없이 정진하겠다는 도드리. 이들의 시선과 발걸음은 이미 세계를 향하고 있다.
