구윤철 부총리 겸 재정경제부 장관이 중동 정세 악화에 따른 경제 영향 점검과 에너지 공급 안정 방안을 걸프협력회의(GCC) 6개국 주한대사들과 논의했다.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun Cheol discussed the economic impact of worsening Middle East tensions and measures to stabilize energy supply with ambassadors from the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
5일 재정경제부에 따르면 구 부총리는 지난 3일 주한 아랍에미리트연합국(UAE) 대사관저에서 아랍에미리트연합국, 사우디아라비아, 카타르, 쿠웨이트, 오만, 바레인 등 GCC 6개국 주한대사들과 만나 중동 전쟁 장기화에 따른 국제유가 상승과 금융시장 변동성 확대, 글로벌 공급망 불안 등을 점검했다.
According to the ministry on April 5, Minister Koo held the meeting on April 3 at the residence of the UAE ambassador in Seoul with representatives from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
They reviewed rising global oil prices, increased financial market volatility and instability in global supply chains caused by the prolonged Middle East conflict.
양측은 호르무즈 해협 긴장 고조가 원유·LNG 공급과 물가에 영향을 미쳐 세계 경제 둔화로 이어질 수 있다는 데 우려를 공유했다. 구 부총리는 한국이 원유의 약 70%를 중동에 의존하고, 대부분이 해당 해협을 통과하는 만큼 경제 충격 가능성을 언급했다.
Both sides shared concerns that rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz could affect the supply and prices of crude oil and LNG, potentially slowing the global economy.
Minister Koo noted that Korea relies on the Middle East for about 70% of its crude oil, most of which passes through the strait, highlighting the risk of economic shock.
이에 따라 양측은 ‘흔들림 없는 파트너십’을 바탕으로 원유·LNG의 안정적 공급과 핵심 물자 수급 유지에 협력하기로 했다. GCC 측은 한국을 최우선 파트너로 두고 긴밀히 소통하겠다고 밝혔다.
Based on an “unwavering partnership,” both sides agreed to cooperate to ensure stable supplies of crude oil and LNG and maintain the flow of key resources.
The GCC countries also said they consider Korea a top priority partner and will maintain close communication.
구 부총리는 한국 정부가 석유제품 가격 안정 조치와 유류세 인하, 정책금융 확대, 추가경정예산 집행 등 대응책도 추진할 계획이라고 소개했다. 양측은 AI·방산 등 미래 분야 협력도 강화하기로 했다.
Minister Koo also introduced planned government responses, including stabilizing petroleum product prices, cutting fuel taxes, expanding policy financing and executing a supplementary budget.
Both sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in future sectors such as artificial intelligence and the defense industry.
