국내 최대 규모의 책 축제인 2024 서울국제도서전이 26일 서울 강남구 삼성동 코엑스에서 개막했다. The Seoul International Book Fair, the country’s largest event of its kind, has opened in the capital’s Gangnam-gu District.
올해 66회 째를 맞은 도서전 주제는 ‘후이늠’. 후이늠은 아일랜드 작가 조너선 스위프트(1667~1745)의 ‘걸리버 여행기’에서 완벽한 세상으로 묘사된 이상향이다. Marking its 66th edition this year, the expo has as its theme “Houyhnhnm,” or the race of rational and intelligent horses in the classic fantasy novel “Gulliver’s Travels” by Irish writer Jonathan Swift (1667-1745).
해외 18개국 122개 출판사와 출판 관련 단체, 국내 350여 개 출판사 등이 참여해 마켓 운영, 도서 전시, 강연, 사인회 등 450여개 프로그램을 선보인다.
Approximately 450 programs will be held during the five-day festival at COEX Mall in Seoul’s Gangnam-gu District, including market operations, book exhibitions, lectures and signing events. A combined 122 publishers and related organizations from 18 countries and 350 domestic publishers will take part.
올해 주빈국은 지난 2012년에도 주빈국으로 참여했던 사우디아라비아로 북토크와 도서 전시, 문화 공연, 영화 등 다양한 프로그램을 통해 아랍 문화를 소개할 예정이다. The guest country of honor is Saudi Arabia, which held the same title in the 2012 event. The nation will promote Arab culture programs like through book talks and exhibitions, cultural performances and films.
맨부커상 수상자 등 국내외 유명 인사와 작가 180여 명도 도서전을 찾는다. About 180 famous writers and celebrities from home and abroad will attend, including winners of the Man Booker International Prize.
특히 아랍 작가 최초로 지난 2019년 맨부커 인터내셔널 부문을 수상한 조카 알하르티가 오만을 대표해 도서전을 찾아 소설가 은희경과 함께 인간의 존엄과 자유에 관해 이야기를 나눈다.
A talk between novelist Eun Hee-kyung and Jokha Alharthi, the first Arab to win the Man Booker in 2019 and who will represent Oman at the fair, will discuss human dignity and freedom.
국내에선 도서전 주제 도서 ‘걸리버 여행기’를 새로 쓴 소설가 김연수를 비롯해 김금희·김애란·김진명·김초엽, 생물학자 최재천, 물리학자 김상욱, 그림책 작가 강혜숙 등 다양한 작가들이 도서전을 방문해 관람객과 소통한다.
Also scheduled to speak and mingle with visitors at the event are novelists Kim Yeon-su, who wrote a novel on the theme of “Gulliver’s Travels,” Kim Keum Hee, Kim Ae-ran, Kim Jin Myung and Kim Choyeop, biologist Choe Jae Chun, physicist Kim Sang Wook and picture book author Kang Hye-sook.
행사는 오는 30일까지 이어진다. The fair ends on June 30.
