2024년 1월 1일 0시, 새해를 알리는 서울 종로구 보신각의 종이 울리고 난 뒤 세종대로 일대에 지름 12m 초대형 ‘자정의 태양’이 떠오른다.
“Midnight Sun,” a massive structure shaped like the sun with a diameter of 12 m, on Jan. 1 at midnight will rise on Sejong-daero Road right after the annual ringing of the Bosingak Belfry in downtown Seoul to mark the new year.
서울시는 오는 31일 밤 11시부터 다음 날 새벽 1시까지 보신각~세종대로에서 ‘2023 제야의 종·새해맞이 카운트다운’ 행사를 개최한다고 26일 밝혔다.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government on Dec. 26 said it will host the “2023 New Year’s Eve Bell Countdown” on Dec. 31 from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day between Bosingak and Sejong-daero.
보신각에서 세종대로로 이어지는 약 400m 거리에는 사전공연, 거리공연, 새해맞이 카운트다운, 새해 축하공연 등 풍성한 볼거리와 즐길거리가 마련된다.
Spanning 400 m between Bosingak and the road, the area will showcase plenty of sights and sounds like preliminary performances, street entertainment, New Year’s Eve countdown, and New Year’s celebratory events.
사전공연은 보신각 앞에 설치된 특설무대에서 퓨전 국악그룹 S.O.S(Season of Soul)가 출연해 가야금, 대금, 바이올린, 판소리가 어우러진 퓨전국악 무대를 선보인다.
Scheduled on a makeshift stage installed in front of Bosingak, the preliminary performances will see the fusion gugak (traditional music) group S.O.S (Season of Soul) putting on a fusion show featuring the sounds of the gayageum (traditional 12-string zither), daegeum (bamboo flute), violin and pansori (traditional lyrical opera).
거리공연은 보신각~세종대로 구간을 세 구역으로 나눠 메시지 깃발 퍼포먼스, 탈놀이와 북청사자놀음, 농악놀이패 공연을 펼친다.
The street performances are scheduled at three sections between Bosingak and Sejong-daero featuring message flag performances, talnori (traditional mask play), Lion Mask Dance of Bukcheong and a series of nongak (traditional farmer’s music) plays.
공연 후 새해를 알리는 보신각 타종이 끝나면 세종대로에서 ‘자정의 태양’이 떠오른다.
‘자정의 태양’은 지름 12m 규모의 거대한 구조물로 어둠이 걷히고 새해가 떠오르는 연출을 통해 희망의 메시지를 전파할 예정이다.
After the performances, “Midnight Sun” will rise on Sejong-daero after the annual ringing of the Bosingak Belfry to mark the arrival of 2024. The massive structure with a diameter of 12 meters will convey a message of hope through the spectacle of the lifting of darkness and the dawn of a new year.
‘자정의 태양’이 떠올라 2024년 새해를 밝히면 세종대로 카운트다운 무대에서 축하공연이 시작된다. 엔하이픈, 더보이즈, 오마이걸 등 K-팝 그룹이 꾸미는 새해 축하공연은 신청 없이 당일 현장에서 자유롭게 관람할 수 있다.
As “Midnight Sun” rises to usher in 2024, celebratory performances will begin at the countdown stage on Sejong-daero featuring K-pop acts like ENHYPEN, The Boyz, and OH MY GIRL. No preregistration is needed to see these groups.
카운트다운 장면은 보신각을 포함해 동대문디자인플라자(DDP), 세종대로에서 삼원 생중계되며 서울시 유튜브 채널인 ‘라이브 서울’에서도 볼 수 있다.
The countdown will be broadcast live on jumbotrons at three locations — Bosingak, Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and Sejong-daero — and can also be viewed on Live Seoul, a livestream YouTube channel run by the city.
