[Korean grammar] 스럽다 Expressing Attributes and Characteristics

가: 자야 씨, 웬일로 오늘 치마를 입 었어요?
Jaya, why did you wear a skirt today?
나: 조금 여성스러워 보이고 싶어서요. 그동안 바지 만 입 었더 니 사람들이 저를 남자로 알더라고요.
I wanted to look a little more ladylike. After wearing only jeans recently, people started mistaking me for a guy.

가: 양강 씨의 올해 소원은 뭐예요?
Yang Gang, what’s your New Year’s wish?
나: 올해는 한국 사람들과 한국어로 자연스럽게 이야기를 할 수 있게 되면 좋겠어요.
This year, I want to be able to talk fluently in Korean with Koreans.

The phrase 스럽다 is attached to a noun and means having a feeling or quality just like the noun.

• 마이클 씨는 여자 친구의 얼굴을 사랑스럽다는 듯이 바라보았습니다.
Michael looked at his girlfriend in a loving manner.

• 그렇게 하는 것은 바보스러운 행동입니다.
This kind of behavior is silly.

• 제 친구는 언제나 가족에 대해 자랑스럽게 말해요.
My friend always speaks proudly of his family.
