V/A+ 더니 (대조)

여보, 저 오늘 앞집 아주머니한테 이사 떡을 드리고 왔어요.
Honey, I gave a moving rice cake to the auntie who lives in the house in front today.
그랬어요? 이사 떡 돌리는 건 어떻게 알았어요?
Did you? How did you know to give a moving rice cake?
한국어 수업에서 배웠죠. 아주머니가 처음엔 놀라시더니 나중엔 좋아하셨어요.
I learned it in Korean class. At first, the auntie was surprised then liked it later.
요즘은 이사 떡 돌리는 것도 드문 일인데 외국인이 오니까 더 놀라셨을 거예요.
Nowadays, it is rare to give out moving rice cakes, but she was probably more surprised because a foreigner came.
그래서 아주머니랑 엄청 이야기 많이 했어요. 내일 집에 놀러오라고 하셨어요.
So, I talked a lot with the lady. She told me to come over tomorrow.

V/A+ 더니 (대조)
As it is attached to an action verb’s stem or descriptive verb’s stem, it is used when it indicates the connection with the past experienced and the different new content by contrast.

지난주에는 날씨가 춥더니 이번 주는 아주 따뜻해요.
It was so cold last week, but this week is very warm.

10년 전만 해도 이곳에 사람이 별로 없더니 요즘은 사람도 많아지고 복잡해졌어요.
This placed used to not have many people, even 10 years ago, but recently there are so many people and it became complicated.
