[Korean grammar] -(으)ㄹ 만하다 Giving Recommendations and Advice

가: 한국에서 가 볼 만한 곳을 좀 추천해 주시겠어요?
Can you recommend any places in Korea worth visiting?
나: 설악산이 어때요? 지금 가을이라서 단풍이 정말 아름다울 거예요.
How about Mt. Seorak? Since it’s autumn now, the fall foliage should be really beautiful.

가: 웨이밍 씨가 만든 음식이 어땠어요?
How’s the food Wei Ming made?
나: 웨이밍 씨가 요리를 잘해서 모두 맛있었지만 특히 월남쌈은 정말 먹을 만했어요.
Wei Ming is a good cook, so all of it was good, but his Vietnamese rice wraps are really worth trying.

This expression is used to indicate that something is worth doing. Thus, it is mostly used to recommend something to someone else.

• 영수 씨는 믿을 만한 사람이니까 힘든 일이 있으면 부탁해 보세요.
Yeongsu is trustworthy, so you can ask him to help you out with difficult tasks.

• 그 일은 고생할 만한 가치가 없으니까 하지 않는 게 좋겠어요.
That job’s not worth the effort, so you probably shouldn’t do it.

• 친구들에게 고향에 대해서 소개할 만한 것이 있으면 해 주세요.
If there’s anything about your hometown that is worth telling your friends, please do so.

This expression is also used to indicate that while the speaker is not completely satisfied with something, it is still worth doing or paying attention to.
• 재활용 센터에 가면 아직 쓸 만한 중고 가전제품이 많이 있습니다.
If you go to the recycling center, there are a lot of serviceable used appliances.

• 이 옷은 10년 전에 산 옷인데 아직도 입을 만해서 안 버 렸어요,
I bought these clothes 10 years ago, but I didn’t throw them out because they’re still worth
wearing.

• 며칠 전에 만든 음식 인데 아직은 먹을 만한 것 같아요.
This food was made a few days ago, but it still seems edible.
