It is attached to the stem of an action verb when someone is not working hard or doing it properly.

제 동생에게 아무리 충고를 해 주어도 듣는 둥 마는 둥 해서 이제는 포기했어요.
No matter how much advice I gave my brother, he didn’t seem like listening that much, so I gave up now.

그렇게 청소를 하는 둥 마는 둥 할 거면 아예 하지 마.
Just don’t do it if you are going to clean up like that.

그는 회사일이 걱정되어서 자는 둥 마는 둥 하다가 결국 새벽 일찍 일어나 출근했다.
He was worried about his work that he couldn’t sleep that well and went to work early in the morning.

Why don’t you try a hangover drink?

아까 한 병 사서 마셨는데 별로 효과가 없는 것 같아요.
I bought a bottle a moment ago but it doesn’t seem to work.

그럼 해장국 먹으러 가는 게 어때요?
Then, why don’t you go eat hangover soup?

역 근처에 새로 생긴 해장국집이 괜찮대요.
I heard that the new hangover soup restaurant near the station is good.

그거 좋겠네요. 따뜻한 국물을 좀 마시면 숙취가 풀릴 것 같아요.
That sounds good. I think drinking some warm soup will relieve my hangover.
