V/A + 으면/면 V/A+ 는다고/ㄴ다고/다고 말을 했어야지요.

V/A + 으면/면 V/A+ 는다고/ㄴ다고/다고 말을 했어야지요 is used to blame or to express sadness to the listener for not telling a fact. By repeating the verb twice, the speaker emphasizes his feelings.

For ‘-으면/면’, if the stem of an action verb or a descriptive verb ends with ‘ㄹ’, you use ‘-면’, with another consonant, you use ‘-으면’.

For ‘-는다고/ㄴ다고/다고’, if the stem of an action verb ends with a consonant, you should use ‘-는다고’, with a vowel you use ‘-ㄴ다고’. After the stem of a descriptive verb you use ‘-다고’.

오늘 회의가 있으면다고 말을 했어야지요. 회의가 없는 줄 알고 자료 준비를 안 했는데.
You should have told me that we have a meeting today. I didn’t prepare the data because I thought there was no meeting.

밥을 먹고 오 먹고 온다고 말을 했어야지. 음식을 괜히 많이 준비했네.
You should’ve told me that you would have had your meal. I’ve prepared that much food for nothing.

머리가 아프 아프다고 엄마한테 말을 했어야지. 왜 얘기를 안 했어?
If you had a headache, you should have told your mom. Why didn’t you tell her?

여보세요? 왜 전화를 이제 받아?
Hello? Why are you answering the phone so late?

교수님이랑 면담하는 중이어서 핸드폰을 무음으로 해 놨었어.
I was in the middle of a meeting with the professor, so I had my cell phone mute.

내가 전화를 몇 번이나 했는지 알아?
Do you know how many times I’ve called you?

맞다, 우리 5시에 만나기로 했는데 벌써 30분이나 지났구나. 얼른 갈게.
Oh, we were supposed to meet at 5 o’clock, but it’s already been 30 minutes. I will be there soon.
