Did you know the entire island is a Natural Monument and Protected Area? Hongdo (홍도) offers two completely different ways to explore its dramatic landscape:
– Gitdaebong Peak (깃대봉): 368 m high, with a roughly 4.4 km round-trip hike taking about 2 hours. Enjoy panoramic sea views from the island’s ridge.
– Hongdo Cruise: About 2.5 hours around the island, passing spectacular red cliffs, sea caves, sea stacks, and famous rock formations such as Nammunbawi (남문바위) and Chotdaebawi (촛대바위).
Hongdo is home to diverse plant and animal species and has been protected as Natural Monument No. 170 since 1965.
