V/A+ 다는 것 자체
It is attached to the stem of an action verb or a descriptive verb to make the content in the preceding sentence a noun form while emphasizing it by re-indicating it. It is usually used in the form of ‘-다는 것 그 자체’ with ‘그’ used in the phrase.
산다는 것 자체가 고통이라면 우리는 삶의 의미를 어디에서 찾을 수 있을까요?
Where can we find the meaning of life if living itself is pain?
일할 수 있다는 것 그 자체를 감사하면서 살고 있어요.
I’m living while thanking myself for being able to work.
그 사람을 다시 만났다는 것 그 자체가 저에게는 기적과도 같은 일이에요.
Meeting him again is a miracle to me in itself.
Conversation:
회사에서 우리가 회사에 출입할 때 필요하다고 우리 생체 정보를 등록하래.
The company wants us to register our biometric information saying we will need that when we enter the company.
그럼 이제 카드키 대신 지문 인식이나 홍채 인식으로 회사에 출입하는 거야?
So are we now entering the company by fingerprint recognition or iris recognition instead of a card key?
그렇지. 근데 난 생체 정보를 등록한다는 것 자체에 거부감이 들어.
Yes, but I get a feeling of rejection just for registering biometric information in itself.
왜? 난 카드를 안 들고 다녀도 되니까 편할 것 같은데? 그리고 현재로선 가장 안전한 보안 장치잖아.
Why? I think it would be comfortable to not carry a card with me. And it’s the safest security device for now.
하지만 회사가 내 생체 정보를 안전하게 관리한다는 보장이 없잖아.
But there’s no guarantee that the company will keep my biometric information safe.
그래도 회사 입장에서는 보안을 생각해야 하니까 어쩔 수 없지 않을까?
But from the company’s point of view, wouldn’t they have no choice because they have to care about security?
