미국 경제 전문지 포브스가 17일(현지 시간) 한국에서 반드시 가봐야 할 벚꽃 명소 다섯 곳을 선정해 발표했다. The U.S. business magazine Forbes on March 17 named five must-see cherry blossom spots in Korea.
포브스는 “평년보다 7일 정도 이를 것으로 예상되는 한국의 올해 벚꽃 개화 시즌은 특히 더 아름다울 것으로 예상한다” 며 하동 십리벚꽃길, 경화역 벚꽃길, 구례 섬진강 벚꽃길, 제주도, 경주 벚꽃 축제 등 벚꽃 명소 다섯 곳을 소개했다.
“The 2024 bloom season for these beloved blooms is expected to be particularly stunning, with experts estimating that this year’s flowering with arrive seven days earlier than normal,” Forbes said of the five spots: Simni Cherry Blossom Road, Gyeonghwa Station Cherry Blossom Street, Seomjingang Cherry Blossom Trail, Jeju Island and the Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival.
포브스가 가장 먼저 추천한 곳은 경상남도 하동군 화개면 화개로에 펼쳐진 하동 십리벚꽃길이다. 매체는 이곳이 젊은 연인들이 손을 잡고 걸으면 사랑이 영원하고 백년해로 한다는 지역의 전설이 전해 내려와 ‘혼례길’로도 알려져 있다고 설명했다.
First on the list was Simni Cherry Blossom Road in the village of Samsin-ri in Hwagae-myeon Township of Hadong-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The magazine said this spot is also called the “wedding road” because of a legend saying that “if young lovers stroll along the road with hands clasped, their love with remain true and they will be bound together for a century.”
두 번째로 소개한 경화역 벚꽃길은 경상남도 창원시 진해구 진해대로에 있는 기차역으로, 벚꽃이 만개하는 봄에 많은 관광객이 즐겨 찾는 명소다. 경화역 벚꽃길은 기차와 벚꽃이 어우러진 아름다운 풍경을 감상할 수 있는 곳으로 안내됐다.
Second was Gyeonghwa Station Cherry Blossom Street on Jinhae-daero Road in Jinhae-gu District of Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. Described as “once a functioning railway station that has been transformed into one of the most picturesque spots to see cherry blossoms in the country,” the street has a “jaw-dropping cherry blossom display” with lovely trees lining the train tracks.
세 번째로 언급된 구례 섬진강 벚꽃길은 전라남도 구례군 문척면 죽마리 일대의 약 3km 정도의 벚나무들이 즐비한 국도를 통틀어 부르는 곳이다. 매체는 “한국에서 가장 아름다운 길 중 하나로 꼽히는 이곳은 걸어서 아름다운 풍경을 감상하고 싶은 이들이나 사진 찍기 좋은 장소를 찾는 사람에게 추천하는 하이킹 코스다. 도로에 접한 음식점에선 은어회와 민물매운탕 같은 지역 특산물을 맛볼 수 있어 더욱 특별한 경험을 선사한다”고 소개했다.
The third spot mentioned was Seomjingang Cherry Blossom Trail, the general name for a national road in Gurye-gun County, Jeollanam-do Province, that follows National Roads 17 and 19 along the pristine Seomgjingang River. Stretching over 3 km, the path is lined with cherry blossom trees around the village of Jungma-ri in Muncheok-myeon Township of Gurye-gun.
Forbes said, “Considered one of South Korea’s most beautiful roadways, it also makes a photo-worthy hiking option for those who prefer to take in the incomparable views on foot. Eateries along the trail are particularly famous for serving local specialties like euneo hoe (raw sweetfish) and minmul maeuntang (spicy freshwater fish stew).”
네 번째로 소개된 제주도는 국내에서 가장 먼저 벚꽃이 피는 지역이다. 벚꽃이 활짝 피는 봄에는 제주도 전역에서 벚꽃 축제가 열린다. 매체는 제주도의 왕벚나무를 소개하며, 꽃이 가장 크고 나뭇가지가 눈으로 덮인 것처럼 보일 정도로 화려한 꽃을 피우는 것으로 알려져 있다고 전했다.
No. 4 Jeju Island is where cherry blossoms bloom first in the nation. When such blossoms are in full bloom in spring, related festivals are held throughout the island. Forbes said, “The island is particularly famous for its King Cherry Trees, which have the largest blossoms and are reputed to bloom so intensely that the branches seem to be covered in snow.”
마지막으로 소개된 경주 벚꽃 축제는 경상북도 경주시에서 열리는 행사다. 벚꽃이 만발하는 봄에는 상춘객의 발길이 끊이지 않는다. 매체는 “매혹적인 경치뿐만 아니라 다양한 문화 공연, 전통 놀이, 향토 음식 장터 등 다채로운 볼거리와 즐길 거리로 가득한 곳”이라고 경주 벚꽃 축제를 설명했다.
Completing the list was the annual Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, an event attracting numerous visitors in spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
The magazine said the festival “not only pays homage to the captivating scenery but also features a variety of cultural performances, traditional games, and local food stalls.”
포브스는 “일본도 벚꽃으로 유명하지만, 한국은 한국만의 특별한 벚꽃 경험을 선사한다” 며 “한국 어디에서든 분홍빛으로 물든 장관을 볼 수 있는 기회가 많이 있지만, 한국의 벚꽃철을 만끽할 수 있는 최고의 장소를 방문하길 추천한다”고 권했다.
“Luckily, no matter where you are in the country, South Korea offers lots of opportunities to witness the pink-hued spectacle,” Forbes said. “While Japan is famous for its cherry blossoms, South Korea offers its own unforgettable cherry blossom experience.”
