강렬하고 통쾌한 한국 액션 영화 시리즈가 돌아왔다. The latest installment of a compelling and exhilarating blockbuster series will soon hit theaters.
영화 ‘범죄도시4’의 언론배급시사회·기자간담회가 지난 15일 서울 강남구 코엑스 메가박스에서열렸다. 주연인 마동석과 허명행 감독을 비롯해 배우 김무열, 박지환, 이동휘가 자리해 영화 촬영 등을 둘러싼 이야기를 나눴다.
An advance media screening and news conference for “The Roundup: Punishment” on April 15 was held at the megaplex Megabox COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam-gu District. Attending the event were actor Ma Dong-seok, who played the lead, director Heo Myung-haeng, and cast members Kim Mu-yeol, Park Ji-hwan and Lee Dong-hwi to discuss the movie.
형사 마석도가 맨 주먹으로 범죄에 맞서 시원한 액션을 펼치는 ‘범죄도시’는 지난 2017년 첫 작품이 스크린에 걸린 것을 시작으로 2022년과 2023년 각각 범죄도시2, 범죄도시3가 관객을 찾아갔다. 이번에 네 번째 작품까지, 그야말로 한국의 대표적인 시리즈 영화로 자리잡았다. 현재 여덟 번째 시리즈까지 제작이 예정됐다.
With its protagonist Det. Ma Seok-do fighting crime with his bare hands, the series debuted in 2017 with “Outlaws,” followed by “The Roundup” (2022) and “The Roundup: No Way Out” (2023). “The Roundup: Punishment” is the fourth installment of the nation’s leading film series, with production planned up to part eight.
앞선 시리즈에 비해 악당의 전투력이 높아진 점에 대해 허 감독은 “마석도와의 마지막 대결이 더욱 흥미롭도록 설계했다”고 전했다. ‘범죄도시’의 백미는 영화 후반부에 펼쳐지는 마석도와 악당의 대결이다.
On the enhanced combat skills of the villains compared to those in the first three films, the director said, “We designed the final clash between the villains and Ma Seok-do to be even more interesting.” The highlight of each edition in the series is the showdown between Ma and the villains at the end.
악당 백창기를 연기한 김무열은 “되도록이면 (스턴트 대역 없이) 제가 액션 연기를 하려고 했다” 며 “전문적으로 보였으면 하는 생각에 잔동작을 줄이고, 몸을 사리지 않았다”고 말했다. 그러면서 “권선징악을 균형감 있게, 유쾌하고 통쾌하게 그려내는 영화” 라며 ‘범죄도시’가 보여주는 시원한 액션을 언급했다.
“I tried to do the action scenes (without a stuntman) if possible,” said Kim, who played villain Baek Chang-gi. “I wanted to look professional, so I minimized small movements and didn’t hesitate.” On the action scenes, the actor said, “This movie portrays good triumphing over evil in a balanced, cheerful and gratifying manner.”
주인공인 마석도 역의 배우 마동석은 “굉장히 많은 사람들의 깊은 고민과 다양한 작업을 거쳐 만들어지는 영화” 라면서도 “범죄도시 시리즈의 목적은 엔터테이닝(대중적 재미)“이라고 강조했다.
“The film was made through the deep thinking and diverse efforts of so many people,” actor Ma said. “The purpose of the ‘The Roundup’ series is entertainment.”
통쾌한 액션이 영화 전체를 관통하는 가운데 중간중간 치고 들어오는 ‘범죄도시’ 특유의 재치와 유머도 관객을 즐겁게 한다. With delightful and non-stop action, the film also features the franchise’s distinct wit and humor from time to time to entertain viewers.
‘범죄도시4’는 개봉을 앞두고 한국 시리즈 영화 최초로 지난 2월 제74회 베를린국제영화제 베를리날레 스페셜 갈라 부문에 초청됐다. 영화의 오락성과 작품성을 인정받아서다. 미국와 호주 등 전 세계 164개국에 미리 판매 되는 등 해외 반응 역시 뜨겁다.
Ahead of its domestic release, “The Roundup: Punishment” was the first Korean series to be invited to the Berlin International Film Festival in February in the Special Gala category, thanks to recognition of its entertainment and cinematic value. Overseas demand for the movie has also been brisk, with pre-sales to 164 countries including the U.S. and Australia.
‘범죄도시4’는 괴력의 형사 마석도(마동석)가 대규모 온라인 불법 도박 조직을 소탕하는 이야기를 그렸다. 오는 24일 한국과 인도네시아를 시작으로 다음 달까지 호주, 대만, 영국, 태국 등에서 잇따라 개봉될 예정이다.
“The Roundup: Punishment” is about the strong-armed detective Ma going after an illegal online gambling syndicate. Slated for release on April 24 in Korea and Indonesia, it will premiere through next month in Australia, Taiwan, the U.K. and Thailand.
