윤석열 대통령이 29일 국빈 방한한 모하메드 빈 자예드 알 나흐얀 아랍에미리트(UAE) 대통령과 서울 용산 대통령실 청사에서 정상회담을 열고 UAE 측의 300억 달러 투자 약속을 재확인했다.
President Yoon Suk Yeol and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, leader of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on a state visit to Korea, on May 29 reaffirmed the UAE’s pledge of USD 30 billion investment in Korea.
대통령실은 이날 정상회담에서 양 정상은 UAE 국부펀드의 ‘300억 달러 투자 공약’을 확인하고 투자 협력에 관한 양국 국민의 신뢰를 강화했다고 밝혔다.
The Office of the President in Seoul said both leaders confirmed at their talks the USD 30 billion investment from the UAE’s sovereign wealth fund and raised trust between the people of both countries in bilateral investment cooperation.
이어 “현재 UAE 국부펀드 무바달라 등 UAE 기관은 투자 협력 채널을 통해 한국 시장에서 60억 달러 이상의 투자 기회를 검토 중”이라고 설명했다.
“UAE institutions like Mubadala Investment Co. are reviewing investment opportunities worth over USD 6 billion in the Korean market through investment cooperation channels,” it added.
이번 정상회담을 계기로 양국 정부는 포괄적경제동반자협정(CEPA)도 체결했다. 자유무역협정(FTA)과 유사한 협정인 CEPA는 양국간 서비스 교역, 경제, 투자 등에서 광범위한 경제협력을 규정한다.
This summit saw both governments sign a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), an accord similar to a free trade agreement stipulating broader bilateral economic cooperation in sectors like services trade, economy and investment.
대통령실은 “교역 자유화와 투자 확대를 포함한 포괄적 분야에서 양국 간 경제 파트너십을 강화해 나가기 위한 제도적 토대를 구축했다”고 평가했다. The office said, “We have formed the institutional basis to strengthen our bilateral economic partnership in comprehensive areas like trade liberalization and investment expansion.”
이날 두 정상은 전통적 에너지 및 청정에너지, 평화적 원자력 에너지, 경제와 투자, 국방과 국방기술 등을 주제로 양국 간 협력 방안을 논의했다. Both leaders discussed cooperation mainly in conventional and clean energy, peaceful use of nuclear energy, economy and investment, and defense and related technology.
전통적 에너지·청정 에너지 분야에서는 아부다비국영석유공사(ADNOC)와 한국 기업 간 ‘LNG 운반선 건조의향서’가 체결돼 한국 기업들이 최소 6척, 15억 달러 규모의 LNG 선박을 수주하기 위한 토대가 마련됐다.
In conventional and clean energies, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. and Korean shipbuilders signed a letter of intent to lay the foundation for orders worth USD 1.5 billion for at least six liquefied natural gas carriers.
또 양국 간 협력에 기반해 후속 원전 건설, 원자력 연료 공급망, 소형모듈원전(SMR) 등의 분야에서 협력 가능성을 계속 모색하기로 합의했다. The two leaders also agreed to discuss potential cooperation in the construction of more nuclear power plants in the UAE, supply chains for nuclear fuel and small modular reactors.
국방·국방 기술 분야에서는 아크 부대를 중심으로 한 국방 협력 심화, 양국 간 논의 중인 방산 협력의 조기 성과 도출 등 장기적이고 전략적인 국방·방산 협력 강화에 공감대를 확인했다.
Turning to defense and related technology, they reached a consensus on bolstering long-term cooperation in strategic defense cooperation, including deeper collaboration in the industry centered on the Korean special forces unit Akh, and achieving early outcomes in defense cooperation under discussion by both countries.
AI 등 첨단기술과 에너지·인프라·원전 등의 제3국 공동진출, 중소벤처 분야, 지식재산 등의 분야에서 양국이 협력하기로 했다. The two sides will also work together in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, jointly expand to third markets for energy, infrastructure and nuclear power, and raise cooperation in small and medium businesses and intellectual property.
양 정상은 정상회담 후 포괄적경제동반자협정을 비롯한 19건의 협정·MOU·의향서 서명식에 임석했다. After their talks, both leaders attended the signing ceremony for 19 agreements, memorandums of understanding and letters of intent including the CEPA.
대통령실은 이번 정상회담에 대해 “모하메드 대통령의 방한을 계기로 양국 간 ‘특별 전략적 동반자 관계’를 심화·발전하는 전기를 마련했다” 며 “중동 국가와의 활발한 정상외교를 통해 조성된 ‘새로운 중동붐’의 모멘텀을 강화하고, 구체적 결실을 이뤄가는 경제외교, 민생외교를 시현했다”고 평가했다.
“The visit of President Mohamed marks a watershed moment for deepening and developing the special strategic partnership relationship between both countries,” the office said. “Active summit diplomacy with a Mideast country reinforced momentum created from the Middle East boom and diplomacy involving economy and public livelihood produced concrete results.”
