There are four types of Korean bank notes: 1,000 won, 5,000 won, 10,000 won, and 50,000 won. On the front side of these bills are drawings of characters, and on the back, are drawings of either landscapes or objects. On the front of the bills worth 1,000 and 5,000 won are well-known Joseon era scholars Yi Hwang and Yi Yulgok. On the 10,000 won bank note is King Sejong the great. King Sejong, the fourth king of the Joseon period, created Hangeul (Korean letters). On the bill worth 50,000 won is Shin Saimdang. Shin Saimdang is the mother of Yi Yulgok who appears on the 5,000 won bill. She was a great mother and an outstanding artist.
