새해가 된 지 엊그제 같은데 벌써 3월이다. 이맘때쯤이면 나는 고등학교를 입학했던 그 날이 생각나곤 한다. 나는 집에서 늦게 나온 데다가 버스까지 놓쳤기 때문에 제 시간에 학교에 도착할 수 없을 것 같았다. 어쩔 수 없이 버스에서 내리자마자 학교까지 뛰어갔는데 그만 넘어지고 말았다. 사람들이 많아서 창피하기도 하고 너무 아파서 일어나기도 힘들었다. 그때 지나가던 한 학생이 나를 도와주었다. 많은 사람들이 못 본 척 하며 지나갔는데 나를 도와준 그 학생이 정말 고마웠다. 그런데 알고 보니 우리는 같은 학교 같은 반이었고 그 후로 우리는 둘도 없는 친한 친구가 되었다. 벌써 10여 년이 지난 일이지만 3월이 될 때마다 그 친구를 처음 만났던 추억이 떠오른다.
It seems only a few days ago that New Year’s day started but it’s already March. Around this time, I’m always reminded of the first day high school. I didn’t think I would make it to school on time because I left home late and I missed my bus. As soon as I got off the bus, I started running but I fell. It was embarrassing and it was too painful to stand back up again. Just at that moment, a student passing by helped me up. Lots of people ignored me and walked by me so was very grateful to the student who helped me up. Then I found out that we went to the same high school and we were in the same class. Since then, he has been irreplaceable and we became best friends. It has been 10 years since that day but every March I am always reminded of how I met my friend.
