한국 국가경쟁력이 역대 두 번째 높은 순위를 기록했다. Korea’s national competitiveness this year has reached its second-highest global ranking in history.
재정경제부는 스위스 국제경영개발대학원(IMD)의 ‘2026년 국가경쟁력 평가’에서 한국이 조사 대상 70개국 중 21위에 올랐다고 18일 밝혔다. 지난해 평가 대비 6단계나 뛰어오른 성적으로 지난 1997년 평가대상에 포함된 이래 두 번째 높은 순위다.
The Ministry of Finance and Economy on June 18 said the country ranked 21st out of 70 economies in the latest World Competitiveness Ranking released by the Switzerland-based International Institute for Management Development (IMD). The result represents a six-place jump from last year and marks Korea’s second-highest ranking since it was first included in the evaluation in 1997.
’30-50 클럽'(1인당 소득 3만 달러·인구 5천만 명 이상 국가) 중에서는 미국에 이은 2위를 차지했다.
The nation also ranked second, behind only the United States, among members of the “30-50 Club” — countries with a population of over 50 million and per capita income exceeding USD 30,000.
이번 순위 상승은 4대 분야 중 기업효율성과 인프라 분야의 순위가 크게 오른 데 따른 것으로 분석된다.
The improvement is largely attributed to significant gains in two of the four major categories: business efficiency and infrastructure.
특히 기업효율성 분야는 생산성·효율성, 노동시장, 금융, 경영관행, 태도·가치관 등 5개 부문 순위가 개선돼 1년 만에 44위에서 34위로 순위가 대폭 상승했다.
Business efficiency recorded a major leap from 44th to 34th within a year, thanks to improved rankings in five subcategories: productivity and efficiency, labor market, finance, management practices, and attitudes and values.
인프라 분야는 지난해 대비 6단계 상승하며 15위를 기록했다. 부문별로는 기본인프라, 기술인프라, 보건·환경, 교육 부문 순위가 올랐다. 과학인프라 부문은 지난해에 이어 2위를 유지했다.
Infrastructure also climbed six spots to rank 15th. Improvements were recorded in basic infrastructure, technological infrastructure, health and environment, and education. Scientific infrastructure maintained its second-place ranking for the second consecutive year.
반면 경제성과 분야는 국제무역, 국제투자 부문에서 개선이 있었으나 국내경제, 고용, 물가 부문 순위가 하락하며 지난해에 견줘 3단계 하락한 14위에 머물렀다.
However, in the economic performance category, Korea slipped three places to 14th. Although rankings improved in international trade and international investment, declines in domestic economy, employment, and price stability weighed on the overall result.
정부는 “평가 결과를 토대로 경제의 강·약점을 분석하고, 현재 추진 중인 제도 개선과 혁신에 속도를 내 종합적인 국가경쟁력을 높이겠다”고 말했다.
The ministry said, “We will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the Korean economy based on the evaluation results and accelerate ongoing institutional reforms and innovation efforts to further enhance the country’s overall competitiveness.”
