한국의 국내총생산(GDP) 대비 과학기술 연구개발비 비중이 세계 2위 수준인 것으로 나타났다. The country’s research and development (R&D) spending in science and technology as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) is second in the world, a Japanese think tank says.
일본 문부과학성 과학기술학술정책연구소(NISTEP)가 7일 발표한 ‘과학기술지표’에 따르면 2024년 한국의 정부·기업·대학·비영리단체 등의 연구개발비는 131조 462억원(약 15조 2965억엔)으로 집계됐다.
A report on science and technology indicators released on Sept. 7 by the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) under Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology found that Korea’s R&D expenditures by the government, business, academia and nonprofit organizations in 2024 reached KRW 131.04 trillion (JPY 15.29 trillion).
한국의 GDP 대비 연구개발비 비중은 5.13%로, 조사 대상 24개국·지역 가운데 이스라엘(6.76%)에 이어 두 번째로 높았다.
Korea spent an amount equal to 5.13% of GDP on R&D, second only to Israel (6.76%) among the 24 countries and regions surveyed.
스웨덴(3.56%), 미국(3.44%), 일본(3.44%), 영국(2.75%), 중국(2.69%), EU 27개국(2.13%) 등과 비교해도 높은 수준이다.
Korea’s figure surpassed those of Sweden (3.56%), the U.S. (3.44%), Japan (3.44%), U.K. (2.75%), China (2.69%) and the 27 member states of the European Union (2.13%).
보고서는 “한국은 주요국 중 1위로, 2000년대 들어 GDP 대비 연구개발비 총액이 급속히 증가했다”며 “중국과 함께 경제 규모 확대와 동시에 상승하는 추세”라고 분석했다.
The report said Korea’s R&D spending as a percentage of GDP since the 2000s has surged to top major economies, adding that along with China, Korea has raised such expenditures in tandem with economic growth.
연구개발비 규모에서는 중국이 97조 1401억엔으로 미국(95조 3387억엔)을 처음 추월해 1위를 차지했다.
In amount, China led the world in R&D spending with JPY 97.14 trillion, surpassing the U.S. (JPY 95.33 trillion) for the first time for the top spot.
