한국과 프랑스가 7일(현지 시간) 공동 의장국을 맡은 국제 영화·영상 정상회의 ‘뤼미에르 서밋’을 계기로 향후 5년간 각각 5억 유로(8000억 원)를 자국의 영화·영상산업에 투자하기로 했다.
Korea and France at the Lumiere Summit, a global event on the film and video industry in southern France that both co-chaired, on Sept. 7 announced investment of EUR 500 million (KRW 800 billion) each in both sectors in their respective countries over the next five years.
‘뤼미에르 서밋’은 영화와 영상의 미래를 논의하기 위해 최초로 개최된 영화·영상 정상회의다. 세계 각국 문화 장관과 국제기구 인사를 비롯해 영화·영상 기업 및 단체 대표, 감독·배우 등 58개국 274명이 참석했다.
The inaugural summit discussed the future of the film and visual industries, attracting 274 people from 58 countries including culture ministers, international organizations representatives, executives from film and visual companies and organizations, directors and actors.
이재명 대통령은 개막연설에서 영화·영상 산업의 중요성을 강조했다. 이어 극장 위기 극복, 인간 창의성과 인공지능(AI)의 조화로운 공존, 독립영화 지원을 바탕으로 한 문화 다양성 수호, 로컬과 글로벌의 상생 등 급변하는 산업 환경에 대응할 네 가지 핵심 의제를 제시했다.
In his opening speech, President Lee Jae Myung emphasized the importance of the two sectors. He presented four key priorities to respond to the rapidly changing industrial landscape: overcoming the crisis facing movie theaters; achieving harmonious coexistence between human creativity and artificial intelligence; protecting cultural diversity through support for indie films; and promoting mutual growth between local and global industries.
이 대통령과 에마뉘엘 마크롱 프랑스 대통령은 공동 의장으로 개막식에서 향후 5년(2027~2031년) 동안 각각 5억 유로를 영상산업에 투자하는 것을 골자로 하는 ‘글로벌 영화영상산업 투자협력 이니셔티브’(뤼미에르 파트너십) 출범을 선언했다.
At the opening ceremony, President Lee and French President Emmanuel Macron, both co-chairs of the summit, announced the launch of a cooperative initiative in the global film and video industries dubbed the “Lumiere Partnership.” Both sides will each invest EUR 500 million in the two sectors from 2027-31.
한국과 프랑스는 독립 펀드를 활용해 자국 영상산업 기업을 우선 지원하고 향후 공동제작을 추진하는 등 단계적이고 개방적으로 협력해나갈 예정이다.
Seoul and Paris will pursue phased and open cooperation, prioritizing support for their domestic film and visual sectors through independent funding and later promoting joint productions.
이 대통령은 “끊임없는 혁신과 뛰어난 창의성이야말로 위기를 기회로 바꾸는 비결”이라며 “오늘 ‘뤼미에르 서밋’이 영화, 영상 산업이 나아갈 길을 환히 비추는 ‘빛(Lumière)’이 되기를 바란다”고 강조했다.
President Lee called constant innovation and outstanding creativity the keys to turning crisis into opportunity, adding that he hoped for the Lumiere Summit to serve as a “light” clearly illuminating the path forward for the film and video industries.
마크롱 대통령은 “프랑스와 한국은 이 정상회의가 국가, 창작자, 제작자, 방송사, 플랫폼, 영화관, 비디오게임과 기술 산업, 국제기구들을 한자리에 모으는 ‘행동의 다자주의’라는 새로운 협력 방식의 이정표가 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.
President Macron said the two sides hoped this summit to turn into a milestone for a new form of cooperation — “multilateralism in action” — that unites countries, creators, producers, broadcasters, platforms, cinemas, the video game and technology industries, and international organizations.
한편 이 대통령은 이번 서밋에 초청된 한국 창작자들과 자리를 함께하며 창작 현장의 목소리를 경청했다.
President Lee also met Korean creators invited to the summit and listened to their perspectives on the creative industry.
이어 찰스 리프킨 미국영화협회 회장을 비롯해 넷플릭스, 디즈니, 소니, NBC유니버설 등 미국 메이저 미디어 기업 대표단과 CJ그룹 이미경 부회장을 접견하고 K-콘텐츠 산업의 미래와 한·미 협력 방안을 논의했다.
He also attended a meeting with a delegation of executives from major U.S. media companies including Charles Rivkin, chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, and those from Netflix, Disney, Sony and NBC Universal as well as CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee to discuss the future of the Korean content industry and reinforcement of bilateral cooperation with the U.S.
