서울이 전 세계 최고 도시 중 10위에 이름을 올렸다. Seoul is ranked among the world’s top 10 cities.
미국 경제 전문지 포브스에 따르면 글로벌 컨설팅 회사인 리저넌스(Resonance)가 발표한 ‘2024 세계 최고 도시들(World’s Best Cities Report)’ 보고서에서 서울을 역대 가장 높은 순위인 10위로 꼽았다.
The U.S. business magazine Forbes said the capital was 10th in the World’s Best Cities report by Resonance Consultancy, a Vancouver, Canada-based global consulting company.
리저넌스는 2016년부터 매년 인구 100만 명 이상인 세계적 대도시 270곳의 환경과 사용자 평가를 분석하고, 거주 적합성·인기도·번영도 등을 측정해 100대 도시를 선정·발표한다. 이 순위는 단순히 거주 적합성과 관광매력을 넘어서 방문객과 사업가 모두가 선호할 만한 도시를 선정한다는 데 큰 의의가 있다.
Since 2016, Resonance has analyzed evaluations of the environment and users in 270 major global cities each with a population of a million or more. The top 100 are selected based on their livability, popularity and prosperity. The rankings go beyond livability and tourism attractions and picks cities liked by both visitors and entrepreneurs.
올해부턴 구글, 페이스북, 인스타그램 사용자 평가와 후기, 주요 통계를 분석하는 등 순위 측정을 보완했다. This year’s list was supplemented through analysis of user evaluations, reviews and key data from Google, Facebook and Instagram.
이번에 발표된 2024년 세계 최고의 도시에서 1위는 영국 런던, 2위 프랑스 파리, 3위는 미국 뉴욕이 선정됐다. 아시아에선 도쿄가 4위, 싱가포르가 5위, 두바이가 6위에 각각 올랐다.
No. 1 on this year’s list was London, followed by Paris in second and New York third. The top-ranking Asian cities in the top 10 were Tokyo (fourth), Singapore (fifth) and Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (sixth).
대한민국에선 수도 서울이 세계 10대 도시에 올랐고, 부산이 67위에 랭크 돼 세계적인 도시로 부상하고 있음을 보여줬다. Among Korean cities, the capital placed 10th and Busan 67th, attesting to their rise as global hubs.
레저넌스는 서울이 “한류 열풍을 타고 글로벌 대중문화 강국으로 확고히 자리잡았다” 면서 “먼 나라에서도 한류가 계속해서 정점을 찍고 폭발하면서 이 카리스마 넘치는 도시는 문화와 상업의 새로운 패러다임을 창조하고 있다”고 평가했다.
“Riding the Hallyu wave, Seoul has firmly established itself as a global pop culture powerhouse,” Resonance said. “As the Korean wave continues to crest and break in distant lands, this charismatic city is creating a new paradigm for culture and commerce, which in turn has thousands flocking to its shores.”
특히 팬더믹 이후에 외국인들의 발길은 끊임없이 늘고 있으며 2022년 에어비앤비에서 네번째로 많이 검색됐다. “Seoul’s popularity as a travel destination is ascendant post-pandemic, too. In 2022, it ranked as the fourth-most searched destination on Airbnb globally.”
뿐만 아니라 서울은 첨단 기술 허브로 180도 변화하면서 4차 산업 혁명이 번창하고 있으며 5G와 6G까지 상호 연결된 도시로 성장했다.
“In an astonishingly short span, South Korea’s capital has 180ed from war-ravaged city to high-tech hub,” the report added. “Its e-governance system and Fourth Industrial Revolution are thriving, creating a digitally interconnected city on 5G and 6G networks.”
한편 리저넌스는 부산을 ‘한국의 마이애미’로 칭하며 낮은 빈곤율과 사회관계망서비스(SNS) 해시태그(#) 비율 등이 높은 점 등 도시의 번영도가 높은 것을 특징으로 꼽았다. On Busan, Resonance called it the “Miami of South Korea” citing its high prosperity including a low poverty rate and high ratio of hashtags on social media.
