내년도 시간당 최저임금이 1만30원으로 결정됐다. 이는 올해(9860원)보다 1.7%오른 것이며 사상 처음으로 최저임금 1만원 시대를 맞게 된 것이다. The minimum hourly wage for next year is set at KRW 10,030, up 1.7% from KRW 9,860 this year and breaking the KRW 10,000 mark for the first time.
최저임금위원회(최저임금위)는 11일 정부세종청사에서 27명 재적위원 전원이 참석한 가운데 제 10차 전원회의를 개최하고 최저임금에 대해 노·사 양측이 제출한 제2~4차 수정안을 받았다. 이후 위원회는 이튿날 새벽 제11차 전원회의를 열고 표결을 거쳐 시간당 1만 30원으로 결정했다. 주 40시간 근무하는 근로자의 기준으로 환산하면 월급은 209만 6270원을 받게 된다.
The Minimum Wage Commission on July 11 held a plenary meeting with all 27 members at Government Complex-Sejong to review the second, third and fourth amendments submitted by labor and management on the wage. In the early morning hours of the following day, a vote decided on a minimum hourly wage of KRW 10,030, or KRW 2,096,270 a month based on a 40-hour workweek.
이는 노동계와 경영계가 입장 차이를 조율해 53일 만에 도출한 합의다. 앞서 지난 9일 본격화된 최저임금 심의에서 노동계는 시급 1만 2600원을 제시했고 경영계는 전년과 동일한 9860원을 요구하며 큰 격차를 보였다. 최저임금이 1만 원을 기록한 것은 지난 1988년 최저임금 제도 도입 이후 37년 만에 처음이다.
The agreement came 53 days after labor and management narrowed their differences. On July 9, the former proposed minimum hourly pay of KRW 12,600, but management wanted to freeze it at this year’s KRW 9,860. So the country will see its first minimum wage surpassing KRW 10,000 since its adoption in 1988.
경영계, 노동계, 공익위원 각 9명으로 구성된 최저임금위는 최저임금법에 따라 이날 의결한 내년도 최저임금안을 고용노동부(노동부)에 제출한다. 노동부가 다음 달 5일까지 내년도 최저임금을 확정하고 고시하면 내년 1월 1일부터 효력이 발생한다.
The commission comprises nine members each from labor, management and public interest groups. Under the Minimum Wage Act, the rate for 2025 will be submitted to the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The rate takes effect on Jan. 1 after the ministry finalizes the proposal and officially announces it by Aug. 5.
