‘2024 월드 웹툰 페스티벌’이 오는 26일부터 29일까지 서울 성수동 일대에서 개최된다. The inaugural World Webtoon Festival will run from Sept. 26-29 in the Seongsu-dong neighborhood of Seoul’s Seongdong-gu District.
올해 처음 개최하는 ‘월드 웹툰 페스티벌’은 지난 1월 문화체육관광부가 발표한 ‘만화·웹툰 산업 발전방향’의 하나로 웹툰 종주국으로서의 위상 강화와 웹툰의 글로벌 인지도 제고를 위해 기획됐다.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and announced in January under a policy to develop the domestic cartoon and webtoon industry, the event seeks to raise the country’s standing as a webtoon power and boost global awareness of the genre.
이번 페스티벌에는 글로벌 대표 웹툰 플랫폼인 네이버웹툰, 카카오엔터테인먼트 등 16개 웹툰 기업이 참가해 다양한 굿즈를 판매하고, 전시·체험 프로그램을 운영한다.
The 16 webtoon companies to participate in the festival include global leaders like Naver Webtoon and Kakao Entertainment, and will also sell items and hold exhibitions and interactive programs.
행사 첫날에는 ‘2024 월드 웹툰 어워즈’가 개최된다. ‘월드 웹툰 어워즈’는 우수한 웹툰 작품들의 가치를 전 세계에 알리고 산업 종사자들의 자긍심을 높이기 위한 취지로 열린다. 10명의 심사위원단이 공모와 추천을 통해 모집된 총 104편의 작품 중에서 본상 작품 10편과 특별상 작품 3편을 선정했다. 이번 시상식 현장에서는 본상 10편 가운데 대상 1편, 심사위원장상 1편을 발표할 예정이다.
To be given on the first day of the festival, the awards go to winners worldwide to promote the value of outstanding webtoons and raise the esteem of those in the sector.
A panel of 10 judges selected 10 main and three special prize winners from among 104 submissions through an open public contest and nominations. The ceremony will name one grand and one jury prize winner from among the 10.
다양한 체험행사와 무대행사도 준비됐다. 27일에는 드라마·영화 제작사 MAJYK 스튜디오의 킴버 임이 스페셜 부문 연사로 나서 할리우드가 주목하는 K-웹툰 이야기를 들려준다. 28일에는 웹툰 작가와 유튜버가 함께하는 토크콘서트, 29일엔 웹툰 캐릭터 더빙쇼, 인기 이모티콘 작가들의 라이브 드로잉쇼도 각각 진행될 예정이다.
Interactive and stage events will include a talk on Sept. 27 with Korean American Kymber Lim, the founder of the drama and movie company MAJYK Studios, on Hollywood’s growing fascination with Korean webtoons. A webtoonist and a YouTuber on Sept. 28 will hold a “talk concert,” followed the next day by dubbing for webtoon characters and live drawing by popular emoticon artists.
