국방부가 드론을 모든 부대의 보편적 전투수단으로 활용하는 군 체계 구축에 나선다. 이를 위해 드론 2만 대 이상을 확보하고 50만 드론 전사를 양성하는 등 ‘국방 드론·대드론 발전 정책’을 추진한다.
The Ministry of National Defense is seeking to launch a system to make drones a standard combat tool across all units through a policy for military drones and counter-drones that includes the acquisition of over 20,000 drones and the training of 500,000 drone operators and strengthening of domestic drone capabilities.
국방부는 무인전투체계 강군으로 전환을 목표로 드론·대드론 전력의 신속한 확충과 획득제도 개선, 국내 드론산업 생태계 활성화 등을 얼개로 한 정책을 26일 발표했다.
The ministry on June 26 said the rapid expansion of drone and counter-drone capabilities, improvement of the procurement system and stimulation of the domestic drone ecosystem transition will help transform the military into a “strong force in unmanned combat systems.”
우선 근거리정찰드론과 소형 자폭드론 등 저가·소모성 드론 2만 대 이상을 확보하고, 장거리 자폭무인기(K-LUCAS)와 인공지능(AI) 기반 군집드론 등 차세대 드론 전력도 단계적으로 도입한다. 대드론 전력도 확대하고 민간 기술을 활용한 신속 획득체계를 구축할 계획이다.
The first step is the procurement of more than 20,000 low-cost, expendable drones including close-range reconnaissance models and small loitering munitions. The gradual introduction of next-generation drone systems will follow including the Korea-customized long-range loitering munitions, aka K-LUCAS, and artificial intelligence-based swarm drones.
Other tasks are to raise counter-drone capabilities and set up a fast-track procurement system that leverages civilian technology.
국산 교육용 상용드론 6만여 대를 도입해 50만 드론 전사를 양성하고, 한국형 군용 드론 인증체계를 마련해 국내 드론산업 육성과 수출 기반 확대도 지원한다.
The acquisition of some 60,000 homegrown commercial drones for educational purposes will be used to train 500,000 drone operators, and a Korean-style certification system for drones will seek to foster the domestic drone industry and expand the basis for exports.
아울러 드론작전사령부를 ‘국방드론본부’로 개편해 각 군의 드론 운용 역량을 강화하고, 드론을 모든 부대가 활용하는 보편적 전투수단으로 정착시켜 무인전투체계 강군으로 전환해 나갈 방침이다.
In addition, the drone operations command will be reorganized into the defense drone headquarters to boost drone capabilities across the armed services. The ministry said the goal is to make drones a standard combat asset available to every unit and accelerate the military’s transition into a powerful force with unmanned combat systems.
안규백 국방부 장관은 “드론을 활용한 작전은 특정 부대의 전유물이 아니라 모든 부대의 보편적 작전이 될 것”이라며 “모든 장병이 드론을 제2의 개인화기처럼 운용할 수 있는 능력을 갖추게 될 것”이라고 말했다.
“Drone operations will become standard operations for all military units instead of the exclusive domain of a specific few,” Minister of National Defense Ahn Gyu-Back said. “Every service member will get the ability to use drones like a personal firearm.”
