한국 식품안전관리 시스템이 세계보건기구(WHO)로부터 세계 최고 수준으로 공인받았다. The nation’s food safety management system has received the highest rating from the World Health Organization.
WHO가 실시한 합동외부평가(Joint External Evaluation) ‘식품안전’ 분야에서 한국이 최고 점수인 5점을 획득했다고 식품의약품안전처가 13일 밝혔다. 이로써 한국은 지난 2017년 1차 평가에 이어 2회 연속 만점을 기록하며 글로벌 식품안전 강국의 위상을 확고히 했다.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on April 13 reported a maximum score of five in food safety in the Joint External Evaluation (JEE) conducted by the WHO, the country’s second straight perfect showing following the first in 2017.
WHO 합동외부평가단은 지난해 8월 말 방한해 식품안전 등 총 19개 영역을 심층 점검했다. 평가 결과 한국은 식품안전 분야의 핵심 지표인 ▲식품매개 질병 및 오염 감시 ▲식품안전 비상 상황 대응 및 관리 등 2개 항목에서 모두 만점을 받았다.
A WHO team in late August last year visited the country for an in-depth review of 19 areas including food safety. Korea received perfect scores in two key areas of the category: surveillance of foodborne disease and contamination and response and management of food safety emergencies.
이번 결과는 한국의 관리 체계가 전 세계에서 가장 정교하고 신속하게 작동하고 있음을 의미한다. 지난 2024년 이후 평가를 받은 22개국 중 두 가지 지표에서 모두 5점을 기록한 국가는 한국과 미국뿐이다.
Among the 22 countries evaluated since 2024, only Korea and the U.S. have gotten a perfect score in both sections.
평가단이 식약처를 중심으로 관련 부처·지자체 간 효율적인 식품안전관리 협력 체계와 식중독 보고관리시스템을 비롯한 실시간 모니터링 및 신속 대응 체계 등에 높은 점수를 줬다고 식품의약품안전처가 설명했다.
The team gave high marks to Korea’s efficient cooperation system for food safety management among related ministries and local governments centered on the ministry, as well as its real-time monitoring and rapid response system including reporting and managing foodborne illnesses.
WHO는 “한국의 식품안전관리 체계는 촘촘한 법적·제도적 기반 위에 디지털 인프라까지 더해져 세계적으로 모범을 보인다” 며 “앞으로 세계 각국의 식품안전 역량을 강화하는 데 기여해달라”고 권고했다.
The ministry explained that the WHO hailed Korea’s food safety management system as a global model with a solid legal and institutional foundation and reinforced by digital infrastructure, urging the country to help strengthen food safety capabilities worldwide.
